Mission Statement of the Chicago ART Project
The mission of the Chicago Art Project is to examine, chronicle, exhibit and advance the art and culture of Chicago and its region. The Chicago ART Project will work with artists and the public to showcase the rich legacy and continuing accomplishment in the visual arts here. Our secondary focus will be to consider other artistic mediums that inspire and motivate Chicago’s visual artists. We will foster and enable scholarly and artistic pursuits through a wide range of activities concentrating on art made in Chicago.
Our programming will support artists of every generation and will recognize the strength created by the diversity of our community. We intend to provide unique opportunities to broaden and deepen our creative community. We will be inclusive, not exclusive, as an active exhibition and performance environment. We look forward to being a collegial partner with other art institutions in our community.
We will educate about the past and present and participate in creating the future. We will reach out to the public in an effort to inform them of the riches in the art produced in their home city, and consider education in all its forms one of our major tasks. We intend to host an active and critical dialogue about culture in Chicago that will include considering other histories, including social, political, and economic ones.
We will be a home for Chicago’s visual art, with attention to music, theater, literature, poetry and other forms of artistic expression. We will reach out beyond Chicago through an extensive website that will promote and catalogue our activities, and will extend Chicago’s art to the rest of the world.
